About the Temperature Converter
Temperature scales were developed independently across different scientific traditions. Celsius anchors at the freezing (0°) and boiling (100°) points of water at sea level. Fahrenheit uses a brine solution and human body temperature as reference points. Kelvin begins at absolute zero — the theoretical minimum temperature where molecular motion ceases. Our converter supports seven scales including the rarely encountered Delisle, Réaumur, and Rømer.
Quick facts
- ›Absolute zero is −273.15 °C — no object in the universe has ever reached it
- ›−40° is the only temperature where Celsius and Fahrenheit scales give the same reading
- ›The average human core body temperature is 37.0 °C (98.6 °F)
- ›The surface of the Sun is approximately 5,500 °C (9,932 °F)
